Something about the hugely diverse mix of makers and artworks in our latest issue has put me in mind of a quote by American painter Georgia O’Keeffe – “I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way. Things I had no words for.” It nicely sums up the kind of the mindful creativity held in these pages. Whether it’s creating big prints from small stamps, adding dimension to artworks through folds and geometry or embracing the faded beauty of ghost prints, it’s fascinating to see what our featured artists do with the same building blocks of shape and colour.

Art can feel a little hard to describe at times, but we hope that by giving our contributors some space to muse on their practices, it will help our readers to reflect on theirs too. We’ve added some new features in this edition that allow our makers to take a deeper dive into what makes them tick creatively. There are stories here of resilience and activism, of community and craft, of nature and nurture and, handily, we’ve brought it all together in a nice tidy package to help inspire you, whatever your technique or inky interest is.
